There are two main sides to Laris, the duplicitous Romulan that most people would see (if a little bit of a racist stereotype) and the woman that she is underneath, the person that only those she would care about would see. Whilst paranoid and duplicitous are stereotypes of her species, a rather xenophobic race that wouldn't disagree with those ideas, Laris also embodies those traits. A former member of the Tal Shiar (the Romulan secret police), Laris is heavily trained in keeping secrets, both her own personal secrets, her job and that of her species. She's skilled in manipulating others, charming and deceiving, doing what she must to fulfil her mission which can make it difficult to determine when she's being genuine. However, her skills are something that Laris has typically only employed if she's needed to affect a situation or person to her, preferring to use honest conversation (or her more-blunt manner) in everyday situations. Despite her skills, Laris is a much more straightforward person, employing a different persona if needed on a job but not hiding behind it all the time. She's also a little more open to other species than a typical Romulan opinion would give, preferring to see the merit in someone's actions than close herself off entirely, knowing when to accept help and use other's skills, even seeking people out when required (for her job or because she knows they would be necessary).
Whilst paranoid is a trait of her species Laris herself is also rather cautious, choosing her words carefully before she acts. It allows her to study a situation, to gain the advantage when she needs to but also to keep herself protected. Laris reveals very little about herself, keeping herself much of a mystery other than to those that know her (and even then they don't know everything). There are many layers to her and it's highly likely that the persona she puts out to others isn't entirely the true representation of herself. She's a very quick thinker, both in analysing any dangers that might be around but also in knowing how to use her skills and knowledge no matter the situation. Laris is also decisive. She knows what she wants or how to affect a situation and it makes her able to act quickly if she's in danger, easily state her mind or just do something. Knowing what she wants also helps her to get what she wants, not backing down if challenged and trying to get someone to bend to her way of thinking. If a plan sounds good she'll support it and act, if it doesn't she'll refuse and stick with that decision.
Though Laris can be cautious she has a direct nature to her, having no time for bullshit or toeing around an issue. Her speech has been known to be blunt, particularly when she's with someone more familiar to her, getting sassy or snappy with them when needed. Laris has no trouble in letting someone know how she feels, whether that's worry over their well-being or annoyance over their decisions. Whist she isn't prone to violence, not particularly aggressive in her speech or actions she's a capable fighter, willing and able to protect both herself or someone else when the situation calls for it, though she doesn't like resorting to extreme measures, holding herself to a higher standard than others in her species or job (particularly as she's no longer in that job).
At her core, Laris is incredibly loyal. Whilst she turned her back on her job and in a way her people she remained loyal to herself and her beliefs throughout it, working for the person that saved her life in the years since. If you can get to know Laris you'll find a good friend, someone that will be honest with you (even if you don't want to hear it), will care (and mother you a little) and keep you safe. She's a caring person, shown typically to those she truly likes, though she has shown care and consideration to a species that was considered too primitive to survive, risking her own life for it. Though she is a survivor and has killed in her past Laris believes in other's lives being just as important as her own, unwilling to kill if it isn't justified or allow someone to die if she could do something about it. Whilst she knows she cannot control other's actions she'll do what she can to keep them safe.
All of this makes Laris incredibly stubborn and strong-willed. She knows her own mind, knows how to act on it and if it really is the best course of action she'll try and bring you around to her viewpoint, either through an honest conversation or by falling back on her Tal Shiar training. Whilst Laris has enjoyed a freer, more relaxed life lately she hasn't relaxed herself or forgotten who she is, keeping her skills sharp and prepared just in case something changes. She's spent too long with a sense of distrust in her to relax too much, knowing that one day her life could be in danger again.

SPY. As a member of the Tal Shiar, Laris is a trained intelligence operative (or a spy). She's trained in methods of infiltration, deep-cover, combat and many other things that her agency would prefer to keep secret. Laris has basic knowledge of medicine (both of her own species and humans, perhaps others), is skilled in forensic reconstructions and data extraction from a computer, armed and unarmed combat and can speak multiple languages (known: Romulan, Federation Standard (English) and French, likely also Vulcan. Perhaps others due to #spylife). COMBAT. Laris is skilled both in armed and unarmed combat, with both Romulan and Federation weaponry, with having stashed multiple weapons around Picard's chateau just in case. She is also adaptable in a situation, able to use common items in reach both offensively and defensively whilst also fighting multiple combatants at once. ABOVE-AVERAGE STRENGTH. As a Romulan Laris is stronger than a human, even with her smaller stature. Her strength is not super-human but is greater than a human in peak physical condition (around three times stronger) due to increased bone and muscle density. As Laris is also highly skilled it makes her a tough opponent to take down, though she can be both over-powered or out-manoeuvred.
