CUNNING. Quill is an intelligent and resourceful woman. The former leader of the Quill's resistance in the war against the Rhodia Quill has an incredibly sharp mind, capable of battle strategies, clever deceptions and having to think on her feet. This also has allowed her to (mostly seamlessly) blend in on Earth. Whilst viewed as a pain, with her methods as a teacher a little more unorthodox, Quill was very good at keeping her head down and living her new life without drawing attention to herself. When things started to spiral she had to be able to quickly think up a response to it, something that required a little more ingenuity in thought given that she was no longer able to use a weapon. Quill has been able to keep herself and those under her protection (mostly) safe during dark and troubling times.
GUARDED. Given everything that Quill has experienced in her life, the viewed oppression of her species, a war, enslavement and subsequent genocide of her people, it is no wonder that she has a very cold exterior, even appearing cruel to those around her. With a sarcastic wit and a very negative opinion of the people she has to spend her time with, it would seem as if Quill sees herself as better than those around her. Truthfully she is incredibly guarded, unwilling to trust people that she doesn't believe would be able to help or protect her. As a soldier, Quill sees value in strength and finds little of it around her. When met with another soldier some of her walls start to drop, Quill almost being kind in order to help Ballon through his fears, 'fighting' alongside him and almost smiling at the memory of it. With like-minded people, particularly other soldiers, Quill is quicker to develop a positive rapport. When met by the Doctor, despite the fact that he leaves her on Earth, she has a positive opinion of him, an appreciation of his skills as a soldier, someone else that is feared, and even the methods that he uses despite the non-violence of them -- he is strong, a protector and has saved her life, all things that Quill values.
PESSIMIST. Quill expects the worst. It's not surprising given how beaten down she has been in her life -- defeated in the war, turned into a slave and then witnessed the genocide of her planet. Despite trying to live a quiet, boring and unobvious life she is constantly on guard, even more so when the Shadow Kin come to Earth and find her. She turns to old skills, practising her use of weapons, stating that until the threats to hers and Charlie's lives have ended she will continue this practice, constantly keeping her guard up. Given that she is also the sworn protector for Charlie she has to always be on her guard, assessing any and every situation for a threat to his life. Though Quill does not go looking for trouble, not wishing to involve herself in anything more than what is necessary, she is always watching and assessing, waiting for something to befall them.
RUTHLESS. She is also incredibly bitter about much of what has happened in her life, the second side of that cold exterior of hers. Given that she is the last of her species and has endured great pain, something that tears her up, making her incredibly angry, Quill expresses it through her sarcasm and cruel remarks. She is quick to judge others, will think little of them and is even quicker to use them as bait or fodder in order to save her own life. Quill is a survivor, someone that will make the difficult choices to save herself or someone else even if it means someone else has to die. When the Shadow Kin first appears on Earth she has no trouble sacrificing the lives of a few humans in order to destroy the Shadow Kin, the people that killed her entire species. Part of this comes down to her skill as a soldier and leader, being able to quickly assess a situation to see the best outcome in terms of survival. As a soldier she expects that one day she will die in battle, even wishing for that over many other courses of action, and knows that in order to survive she has to be the one to act first, to keep fighting for as long as she is able. Her ruthless choices are also fuelled by her anger -- both for the Shadow Kin and the last remaining Rhodia, Charlie Smith. With her free will taken in punishment Quill views her life as one of a slave, given that she has no choice to obey Charlie's commands. Quill has stated that she would rather die in search of her freedom than live that sort of life, knowing that it is not any kind of life. She has made a point to Charlie that whilst she is bound to protect him she is not bound to protect anyone else and would rather keep the two of them alive and flee danger than put herself into it to save someone else. Unfortunately, his kinder heart means that she often has to save others, to do the right thing, channelling her anger into the next fight.
VOLATILE. Though Quill keeps a very calm and controlled exterior the pain that she carries is very much on the surface, waiting for release rather than being buried deep below. She is incredibly angry about what has happened to her, seeing unfairness where others see justice and wishing that she could do something more about it. But she can't. As much as Quill may shout and rave, frequently reminding herself and others how she used to lead an army, how she was feared, that she is more than what her life has now become that is all that she can do. The parasite inside her head, effectively controlling her freedom, prevents her from being able to act and rebel lest she die. With all of her grief built up inside her, it does mean that it has a tendency to bubble over. When Charlie has the option to use the Cabinet of Souls to destroy the Shadow Kin Quill almost begs him to, angrily yelling (and crying in grief) when he does not, rebuffing claims of monstrous acts based on what she has experienced. Quill's grief is strong enough that when the Lankin visit, offering to take that grief away, they went to Quill, sensing how strong her pain was. Though she was sceptical and refused their 'help', not wishing to lose even more of herself, it was undeniable how much she hurt. When Quill finally has the arn removed from her head, effectively releasing her from her shackles she wastes no time in getting her hands bloody and threatening the lives of others. Although her plans of revenge are momentarily put on hold by personal complications she dives into the first fight that comes up, a smile on her face and enjoying herself far too much. She is herself again, free, and able to release everything that had been pent up inside of her -- particularly when it is against those that committed genocide on her people.
BRAVE. Quill does not back down. Though she has run from danger it is not in fear but instead in trying to find a better position. As an experienced soldier, Quill knows the value in running from a fight, rather than engaging in a losing situation. She is not afraid to fight, or even to die. In fact, Quill enjoys a fight, knowing that she is skilled, referring to herself as war itself. Whilst her self-preservation is incredibly strong she will fight for the protection of others, a role that she has begrudgingly started to take on with more frequency. Though tasked, unwillingly, with the protection of others Quill puts herself in the line of fire in order to keep them safe, not backing down from a fight and doing so with strength in her heart. It would be wrong to say that she is not afraid -- Quill has felt fear in the past, still doing so in particular situations, but she has learned to use that fear as a balance and a strength rather than cowering from a situation in fear.
SELFISH. With strong self-preservation instincts, particularly being the last of her species, Quill would prefer to keep her head down and live out her life as quietly as possible. Though life makes this difficult, with the Shadow Kin finding her and other creatures coming through the space-time rifts, it doesn't stop Quill's base desire to survive even at the cost of those around her. With little care for the people around her, she is very okay with letting them die as long as it keeps her alive, even pushing people into known death so that she is spared. Her selfishness doesn't just come into play in terms of survival. Quill is willing to gain information but rarely ever shares it and though she has been forced to help she makes it known that it is begrudgingly, frequently complaining about the situation that she has been placed in or what is asked of her.
IGNORANT. Though she is well informed about Earth, having spent a lit of time researching the planet in order to blend in, these areall facts that would help her in her daily life rather than a true understanding. Quill knows of animals, history, science but she doesn't know about the people. Though she is brash normally, more sharper by her pain, Quill doesn't understand human communication or social cues particularly well. Nor does she want to. She has a negative view on humanity, finding much of what they do pointless, making her want to interact with people as little as possible -- why try to understand what you don't plan to do? It's one of the few things that, if you get a true conversation with her, that would give her away as not being human. In short conversations or if you didn't know her, her lack of understanding could appear as rudeness but, should she know you better she might actually ask if that is something that actually happens to humans, said more as an insult even if she is truly asking.
RUDE. As well as cold Quill gives herself a very rude appearance with her sarcastic wit and judgement of others. Those around her frequently say that she is the worst person that they have known, a pain in their backsides and even Quill herself says that nobody likes her. Given that she doesn't try to make herself liked, using it as a barrier to keep people away, it is no wonder that she is seen as rude -- she openly questions others, asking or stating hurtful facts and, generally, whatever comes to mind. She has a low view of the human race, part through a lack of understanding and part from her observations whilst living with them, making her not particularly care what she says or how it makes people feel. Quill is very unapologetic about what she says or does and appears to not care about what people think about her -- she is too proud to. There are many things about herself that Quill is proud of. She is a skilled combatant and was the leader of her people, and though she is now that last of her species she is proud to be a Quill. She talks fondly of her battles, of the strength in herself and knows that she is someone that she can rely on. Given that she doesn't trust or feel that she can rely on anyone else she is quick to brush them off, verbally or physically, and keeps her walls very high -- her words preventing anyone from trying to get close to her.
ALIEN. A member of the Quill race she is genetically different from a human. Though her appearance has been modified so that she looks human, giving her human form to blend in on Earth, biologically she is still a Quill. What this means is that her strength and reflexes are greater than a human's, being in peak Quill condition from her years as a soldier, with possibly heightened senses. She is very quick and dexterous, almost cat-like in some of her movements and scarily accurate in her use of weaponry, able to hit targets without even looking at them. Though she has a human form she hasn't been turned human, with her brain and internal organs still that of a Quill -- her form is just a mask (one that she wears well). COMBAT. As a trained soldier Quill is incredibly competent in battle. She has a strategic mind, is skilled in both hand-to-hand combat and with the use of various weapons (guns and melee) and has been seen, even when heavily pregnant, to be able to hold her own against multiple combatants. She is also familiar in using and likely constructing bombs. SCIENCE. Posing as a physics teacher at Coal Hill Academy Quill was able to "teach" her students complex material, writing equations on the board from memory, knowing of more complicated physics and mathematics than what humanity had yet understood. She was also able to determine what had happened to April using her scanner, was knowledgeable enough with artron energy and had built two EMF readers. Quill has also been able to repair a Dalek, getting its motion systems back online though refusing to fix its weaponry. The fact that she refused to shows that she could have done, showing knowledge in engineering as well as physics (including alien engineering and advanced space-time knowledge). She is also knowledgeable in chemistry, able to analyse mysterious compounds herself found during their investigations. She also has basic knowledge of human biology and likely knows other species biologies (to an extent). INVESTIGATIVE. Aside from being a military leader with a tactical mind Quill is incredibly observant, noticing things that other people fail to. When being inspected by 'Ofsted' Quill was convinced that he was evil (later discovering that she was partially right), trying to find out everything that she could about him, believing that he was evil due to his appearance not fitting with what was expected, doing heavy research on the smallest of details to prove her point (such as the stitching on his trousers). Quill was also able to detect a species that hid in the walls, having noticed them when they came to observe her sleeping, something that no one else noticed. LANGUAGES. Quill speaks both her own native language as well as that of the Rhodians. After 'relocating' to Earth she had to learn English, which she can speak fluently (if general conversationally -- her idioms aren't perfect and her conversations depend on if she understands human nuances). Other than a strange manner of speech her grasp of English wouldn't give her away as being non-human, just a little odd.
