Snow White is a strong willed, kind and loving individual. She is written as being pure of heart and the fairest of them all, for both her appearance and for her kind temperament. Snow is someone who is beloved by those in her kingdom, someone who would forgive a person's actions even when they weren't so innocent. Despite all of Regina's actions against her Snow was against seeing her dead, and even once stated she would have forgiven her and loved her as family because she believed that there was good in her. Some would see Snow's judgements as naive whilst she would state that she is not so quick to give up on someone, not when she knows there is more to them. Having known Regina in the past, having her as a friend and seeing her care for her Snow wanted to believe that was possible again. After the curse broke in Storybrooke, even though Snow blamed Regina for the curse she still did not wish to see anything happen to her, stepping in between the townsfolk when they threatened Regina's life and even disagreeing with David when he suggested letting the wraith take care of Regina for them. It may have finally stopped Regina but it was not an action that Snow was comfortable with - everyone deserved a chance, and she would rather have seen Regina redeem herself for her actions and find the happiness that was ripped from her (both accidentally by her and purposely by her mother).
Snow's kind and caring nature also helps her to be a good ruler. Having cared for those in her kingdom and wishing to see the best for them has granted Snow their love, and with a just head on her shoulders she does everything possible to make things better for her people. Whilst once Snow judged those that were her servants she learned and important lesson granting her a wider view, viewing herself as less important than everyone else and seeing everyone as an equal. Whilst as a child Snow may have believed that something was for her (e.g. a party) she now sees it as being something for everyone.
In addition to her just sensibilities allowing Snow to be a good ruler she also aims to motivate her people. Snow knows how to speak to her followers in order to rouse their support, particularly when they are lacking faith or hope, which entails Snow needing to have faith in herself and her goals. In order to stay alive Snow has needed to remain strong and brave, allowing her to weather any obstacle. Although this has not been easy, and she has given in at times, the support of friends and Charming has allowed her to see past difficulties in order to focus on the goal - often getting her there. Snow is also confident enough to speak up and against those that would try to silence her. When Regina threatened Snow and her kingdom, rather than be frightened or forced to back down due to the threat Snow spoke against her words, telling the villagers the truth about Regina (rather than what Regina had perpetuated) and even spoke up to Regina - refusing, in person, to back down and challenging her. This is something that Snow continues to do in Storybrooke. Once the curse was broken, even though she had heard that magic had been restored to Storybrooke - and thus could assume that Regina was powerful again - Snow challenged her, speaking to her as if these threats were nothing. Underneath the woman that was raised as a kind princess, Snow has a rebellious and sassy attitude, helping to allow her to be fearless against danger.
Snow is also a good tactician. In order to win back her kingdom from Regina she has needed to carefully plan her actions and was able to end up trapping Regina by having the foresight that the other woman lacked. In Storybrooke against other more uncertain foes Snow's careful planning has been used to see others to safety whilst focusing on the problem, trying to solve it with minimal damage and casualties. Snow will always keep the best interests of her people in mind, preferring to solve a problem through more diplomatic means than violent ones. She would prefer to talk a threat down rather than simply kill it, giving it the option to stop.
Snow's resourcefulness and unwillingness to back down has also helped her in many situations. She is a highly resilient and hopeful individual which is seen not only in her stubbornness to give up on Regina despite her actions but also in her wish to see the light in every situation. Even when a foe has seemed difficult or a situation dire Snow has tried to insert light back into it by being hopeful about their outcome and believing in the people around her, often inspiring them into a fighting or winning activities. Snow very strongly believes in her friends, not only because they have supported her but because she sees the best in them and wishes for them to be the best that they can be. If someone has helped Snow she makes a promise to help them, with the thought of breaking it being unthinkable for her. Trust with the people she cares about is very important to her, although it is also a weakness. One way that is easy to hurt Snow is to hurt the people that she cares about. Snow will fight very strongly for those that she cares about but she would also sacrifice herself to save them.
Whilst Snow is pure of heart she also can act a little less innocently. When on the run from Regina Snow lived as a bandit, something that included setting traps for passing travellers in order to stop them to steal from them. Although Snow would never hurt another she did what it took to survive including stealing money, food and trespassing or breaking in to sleep in people's barns. Snow has also been shown to be selfish towards others when she is afraid. When the possibility for her own child to have a dark nature is revealed Snow works to remove that darkness from her child, risking the future of Maleficent's child by channelling the darkness into her. Although Snow was thinking of her own child she didn't think about the consequences of her actions, particularly when they ended up turning out worse than expected. What Snow did to Maleficent's child caused her considerable amount of shame and guilt, and when Maleficent, Cruella and Ursula showed up in Storybrooke Snow was fearful for the repercussions of those actions - particularly Emma finding out. Snow was ashamed of what she had selfishly done and what it had cost another, and feared most of all that Emma wouldn't understand why she had done it. The thing that Snow felt worst about was that she professed and took pride in her good actions, in being pure, kind and a good ruler, but she began to doubt that - wondering how she could set a good example for her child with what she had done. From this act it spurred Snow on to be the best that she could be, striving to do as much good as possible to redeem this act and set a good example for her daughter.
Whilst under the Dark Curse that had been cast by Regina Snow lived as a woman named Mary Margaret Blanchard. Mary Margaret was a mild mannered school teacher, someone who cared greatly about her students and friends but was less certain about herself. As the Dark Curse was cast by Regina to stop people from having their happy ending it was likely that - along with Snow not knowing her life - the personality traits that helped her most with her happiness were also removed, namely her courage and bravery. Mary Margaret was a meek woman, someone who didn't stand up to the threat and power of Regina Mills despite some of Mary Margaret's beliefs. This is in contrast to Snow who stood against Regina despite the threats to her life, and her courage, persistence and fight lead to her gaining her goals - and true love.
After the Dark Curse was broken Snow had the memories and feelings of both lives within her. Although she was once again herself and courageous it did not mean that she forgot who she was as Mary Margaret, and if anything that reminded her more of love, failures and honesty.
Powers/Abilities:
horse riding. after beginning riding as a child Snow became an accomplished horse rider, winning several ribbons for her skill.
archery. first as a bandit, and possibly a skill that Snow White learned as a child, Snow was seen to be skilled with a bow and arrow. Although she wasn't a very good hunter she has been shown to be confident and skilled in using a bow, against creatures as large as ogre's also.
sword fighting. during her life Snow White became accomplished with a sword and was even able to pull Excalibur from the stone due to her being the kingdom's true ruler (although this sword was shown to be fake).
survival. after running for her life and becoming a bandit Snow had to learn how to survive, including catching her own food, living and stealing. Snow was able to successfully hide from Regina for an unstated period of time without too much trouble, with help from others that she befriended and her choices of hiding and quick fleeing.
bird communication. she is shown to be able to communicate with and also understand the language of birds, in addition to knowing how to well care for them.
Mary Margaret is 5'6" with short black hair, styled in a pixie cut. When cursed as her Storybrooke counterpart Mary Margaret dresses very conservatively, with skirts and high necked button shirts with a cardigan, or long sleeved jumpers. With her memories again of being Snow White her dress is still very conservative, although sometimes exchanging the skirts for trousers or jeans. Mary Margaret carries herself with confidence, grown from her upbringing as a princess and turn out as a strong young woman who is a skilled leader.
