IN-CHARACTER: Character name: Lydia Martin Character journal:intelligently Series name: Teen Wolf Canon notes: 513 Codominance + Asgard AU
Lydia's canon point in Asgard was 412 Smoke and Mirrors. I'd like for her to have gone home in between Asgard and Drift Fleet ( maybe Asgard sent her home - the magic is unpredictable lately ) to canon update her to 513 Codominance please. Lydia also spent 5 months in Asgard (1:2 IC:OOC)
- Arrived in Asgard (Odin house), learned about her previous appearances in Asgard, caught up on the history, powers, etc. First experienced powers going haywire - a sign of the gods powers changing? - Lydia joined the school that had been created in Asgard adding first aid to her studies and began volunteering at the clinic. - After the past few months (pre-Lydia's arrival) events in Asgard the gods initiated a 'hugging event', where everyone was very happy and felt compelled to hug another. Lydia finished up in a cuddle pile with puppies and Scott McCall. - The next bunch of new arrivals signalled a change in Asgard which worried Lydia, and everyone else. The tree of life was beginning to die, which meant every world was dying. - A curfew was installed in Asgard after the city became militarised. In an effort to help, and with her recent efforts, Lydia joined the medics group. - Lydia helped get toys for the welcoming committee (for the children brought to Asgard). When fairies arrived in Asgard Lydia (and many others) was bitten by one, becoming temporarily sick. - Lydia helped clean up the city after dragons came to 'visit'. Although the dragons initially attacked Asgard they turned their efforts to helping the Travellers against Thiazi. Lydia later canon updated (via dreams) and changed from Odin to Hel house (+ power change). She also became the last person from her home to be in Asgard. - In the increasing war efforts, particularly when the fight was taken to Thiazi, Lydia sought more help for the medics - either spare bodies or supplies (especially from those with drawing life magic). - Thiazi was defeated, but the war was not over with Thiazi's followers still ready to fight. Lydia will be brought from Asgard after Thiazi's defeat but before the end of the war.
Personality:
On first sight Lydia appears to be just a high school girl: shallow and self-important. She's popular, fashionable and, in contrast, knows how to survive. Whilst Lydia's survival skills might not be as traditional, for example fighting or hunting, her survival skills pertain to who she is and who she needs to be. If you look deeper into Lydia, or actually manage to get to know her, it's possible to see that the Lydia Martin that everyone thinks they know isn't the true story. Really? Lydia is intelligent, thoughtful and sensitive, if still manipulative. The reason that she keeps herself hidden is for appearance. Lydia is popular, if not the most popular girl at Beacon Heights, and she likes this, which is something that she knows she wouldn't be if people knew exactly how smart she was. Although Lydia's true friends have shown that they don't care that she's smart, as they like her, it is not something that she'd reveal outright - as even her parents are surprised by her good test scores. Lydia's intelligence also spreads not only through her good testing and knowledge but into more personal areas. By hiding her intelligence Lydia shows that she can use it and use it well as the act that she puts on is believed by everyone that knows her. It also enables her ambitions, as Lydia knows what she wants and knows how to get it, which further enables her manipulative attitude.
Lydia is also a curious girl. After learning classical Latin Lydia taught herself archaic Latin simply because she was bored, and when a new girl by the name of Allison Argent arrived at Beacon Heights Lydia made sure to get to know her, although only partly through friendly curiosity - popular nosiness and gossiping may also have had a hand. Where Lydia is curious she also likes to know things. After helping Allison and Scott with their werewolf problem and plan, especially after translating Allison's archaic Latin text, Lydia demanded (begged) to know what was going on when no one would tell her, finding being kept in the dark incredibly frustrating. This has lead in to Lydia being more central in the supernatural goings-ons of Beacon Hills, particularly after it was discovered that Lydia was a banshee. Whilst Scott may try to fight what is going on, or who is doing it, Lydia works more on the problems behind it - looking for patterns, solutions or helping when someone is hurt. After initially fighting her banshee abilities Lydia opened herself up to them, wanting to learn how to use them to help other people - to find someone in danger before they die.
Despite Lydia's front, and her hopes, when things do become tough Lydia isn't the best at keeping her head, or so it might seem. After being attacked by Peter Hale (being bitten) Lydia begins to hallucinate, first some rather traumatic images (of a burned Peter Hale) and later a young boy (a young Peter Hale), although of the latter Lydia originally believes that he is real, and that he's stalking her. Although it is not Lydia's state of mind causing these hallucinations, but rather something of Peter Hale that he left behind after attacking her, this isn't the first time that Lydia has been "mentally incapacitated" after a traumatic event. After seeing the Alpha werewolf coming from the video store she becomes heavily medicated to help her deal with the event, and after her attack Lydia enters a fugue state in which she remembers nothing about the three days she spent in the woods. Although Lydia does break down from these events (which is normal given what happens to her) Lydia refuses to be seen this way, showing her determination and strength. Although part of Lydia's reason for bringing back her 'front' is so that she is not seen as weak, the fact that she is able to 'pull herself together' in order to mentally compose herself to act strong, even more so can convince others of it, shows how determined Lydia is - not only to be seen as fine, but to be it. Through experience and exposure to events - as they are frequent occurrences in Beacon Hills - Lydia has become stronger (though not less affected) by them. After Jennifer Blake tries to kill Lydia Lydia refuses to hide the fact that happened, telling her mother that she survived - she doesn't need to hide it.
Lydia's determination lies not only in how she wishes to be seen but also in what she wants. Inititally Lydia wanted to be popular and she accomplished this with how she acted towards others. By being standoffish, and essentially a bitch to others, Lydia manages to somehow command respect (and fear) from others rather than push them away. This also tied in with Lydia's relationship with Jackson. Although it seemed unhealthy, and somewhat uncaring, Lydia truly loved him, and when it mattered she was able to save him.
After learning the truth about Beacon Hills, and finding more security in her group of friends than she'd ever had with her wishes for popularity, Lydia drops her mask somewhat. Although she has always applied herself in school Lydia doesn't try to hide herself quite so much, particularly after her fugue episode in the woods had her labelled the town whack job. With dropping her mask Lydia is now able to be more true to herself - she's smart, confident, and determined, and she cares. Lydia uses her intelligence and determination to try and help people - to help Scott save lives, and to try and stop the bad things that happen. And she doesn't give up, even when things are difficult.
Although Lydia has friends, even some that she is close to, she isn't good at asking them for help, or showing her gratitude. Whilst Lydia may let her friends in and get to know her she still refuses to let them see any weakness. Although Lydia doesn't need to hide herself from them there is a part of her that still wishes to protect herself, not so much from them but from anyone else. Although Lydia has dropped her mask and is less focused on being popular there are still some ideas that are harder to shed, and after bad things have happened to her before she doesn't want any chance of repetition of that, or people learning what really happened.
Abilities:
BANSHEE. Although Lydia's banshee abilities are highly unexplained - Lydia has only ever met one other banshee, and she knows very little about her own abilities, some information has been revealed through other characters or through Lydia's demonstration of her abilities. Lydia's abilities have also recently been amplified through trepanation. Her abilities include:
SCREAM. Lydia's scream is something that is highly powerful. It is first a signal - a sign that someone has died, or may be very close to death. The second part, for Lydia specifically, is that her scream is a tool to drown out noise. If Lydia screams it can help her to focus on the voices that only she can hear - voices of other banshees or spirits. Finally the scream of a banshee, if used correctly, is also a weapon. Once when amplified, and directed, a recording of Lydia's scream was used to shatter glass. It's also been described as having the ability to shatter skulls, and has caused electrical interference (and shattering a light). This is something that Lydia is only recently learning but flashforwards have shown her capabilities. [1] [2] [3] ( possibly of the next episode ) SENSE OF DEATH. One of Lydia's innate banshee abilities is the ability to sense when someone has died, or is very close to death. Although Lydia is not very good (currently) at knowing when someone is in danger she was told that her abilities would allow her to know when someone was about to be harmed (with the example being "I'm going to shoot one of these two people, tell me who"). This is something that Lydia would like to develop to help save someone's life before discovering their death. The death of someone frequently causes Lydia to enter a fugue state, travelling to the location of the dead body (or directing someone else there) to discover the body. BANSHEE RADIO. Banshees have an in built 'radio' in terms of the voices that only they can hear. Banshees are able to hear other banshees (and communicate with them, as Lydia once sent a message to Meredith Walker) as well as other spirits. Lydia once heard the voices, and deaths, at a motel, and has heard whispers from twanging strings. When the voices become too much for Lydia it sounds like a high pitched buzzing in her head, something which only a scream can clear - allowing her to focus on what the voices say. With few other banshees around Lydia also has little experience with knowing how to communicate with other banshees, only ever having heard the voices (and knowing little about focusing on them). Given that the voices are from other spirits and banshees Lydia will likely not be able to hear them in Drift Fleet, unless (mod choice) she picks up on the games spirits instead. SPIRIT WALKING. In recent canon Lydia has been in a coma, but she has been able to act outside of her body. Lydia's mind is fully active, and an astral or spirit (???) form is able to interact with Meredith Walker (on a spirit plane???). In this atmosphere Meredith is teaching Lydia to use her abilities, with Lydia's scream (in the spirit plane???) having an effect in the real world causing a light to explode. [1] SHADOW CONTROL. This is Lydia's ability that she gained in Asgard. In Hel house there were two abilities - shadow control or body control, with Lydia developing shadow control. In game Lydia reached 'level two' with her powers which means:
At level 1, the user can control their own shadow as a puppet. The amount of shadow they have to work with depends on the lighting of the area, as directly overhead light makes for a very small shadow! They can shape this shadow into any shape and cause it to lift from the ground. At level 1, it's possible to create shadow weapons, but it would be very difficult to manage splitting the shadow to make projectiles.
At level 2, shadow control expands to include shadows besides the user's own. They can control up to 3 shadows at a time, though they are still effected by lighting. The size of the shadows they can grab is not limited, so taking a building's shadow, for example, would provide them with much more material. At this level, shadows can be turned into small (no larger than a medium-sized dog) monsters of the user's imagination.
After originally having ice magic in Asgard (Hel house) Lydia found adapting to her new ability of shadow control difficult (switched after a canon update changed her God house). In more recent events Lydia used her abilities to aid in a medical context - cooling wounds, creating 'bandages' with shadows. She did not use her abilities for offence in the war as Lydia worked as a medic, though she could likely have created shadow shields or a small barrier. [1]
IMMUNITY. Usually when bitten by a werewolf there are two outcomes: you become a werewolf, or you die. Lydia Martin did neither. She was bitten, survived and remained human. It is unstated whether this immunity is due to Lydia being a banshee or something else, but it puts her in a unique position. Despite also being a banshee Lydia is still human - she is able to cross over mountain ash which acts as a barrier to supernatural beings. FIGHTING SKILLS. Although Lydia has only recently been trained in hand-to-hand combat she knows more than she believes. Lydia is a fast learner, something possibly accentuated by her banshee abilities, and has great muscle memory. [1] INTELLIGENCE. Lydia has a 5.0 GPA and in her senior year is only taking one class - AP Bio. Lydia has a great memory and knowledge base, including knowing both classic and archaic Latin, and great problem solving and leadership skills.
